What's On Jef's Cell Phone And On Jef's Mind 06-19-008

It has been an eventful 2 weeks. No cell phone pics, but my guitar is finished so I'll make a pic of that and put it in here for you to oogle while it's raining cats and dogs here. That just means it will be a swamp this afternoon when it hits the mid 150's.

Fun And Games
============

My whole purpose for taking 2 weeks off was so I could help my wife while she took 2 four week master's classes and 1 two week mini course. My job was to just keep things going and get Liberty* and Erin* where they needed to go which includes baby sitting jobs, swim lessons and cheerleading lessons. I do enjoy being a SAHD, but for some reason I am not sleeping.

All this time Liberty and I have been playing all sorts of card games. The kid is a "Match" wizardess. It's unbelievable how well she remembers where card matches are. It's freakishly supernatural to me how she remembers it. But it's good times! We play Crazy 8's, Go Fish, Old Maid, Match and I've steared her away from board games because they are boring.

Guitars, Cadillacs, Hillbilly Music ...
============================

Over a year ago I bought a Saga guitar kit. What you see to the right is exactly what comes in the kit. It's really meant to be painted and put together and over and done in about a week. No no no!

My mission was to get some experience at making them myself. I have learned so much in a year. I learned the proper way to finish them - and strip and finish again - good guitar woods, where to find parts and that all of it covers the disciplines of wood working, electronics and believe it or not, auto paint repair - they are very similar.

So I bought a piece of Mesquite wood for $50, took 1/4 inch off the top of the guitar, made a template of the guitar shape, shaped the Mesquite attached it, sanded it, then finished the WHOLE thing and put it together. All this took a year. Now it normally wouldn't take that long, but I was learning. Tuesday I polished and Liberty helped and I had it together and playing by 5:00 PM.

And for my next trick ....

* Obviously ... these are not their real names.

I wanted to be a lawyer up until my first year in college...that's all I would talk about...I'm pretty good at arguing!

Great job on the guitar! The only guitar I can play came with my playstation!

Amy: My mom said the same thing about me. I worked for a law firm my first summer after my freshman year in college. Totally hated it. I bet you rock that Playstation Axe!!!

Shouldn't you be changing the title of these posts to "What's on Knot's Cell Phone....?" I thought you were going completely incognito?

That being said, I enjoyed your meme. I could actually click your links because I'm NOT at work!

I'm glad you're enjoying your time at home. I'm a big fan of card games too, and not so much of most "bored" games. It's nice to see a dad spending quality time playing with his kid. I wish my hubby did that with ours. I feel like both he and the kids have missed out on some important moments because he didn't and doesn't.

LOVE the crackle guitar. I'm impressed with your talent in finishing guitars.

Terri: Hmmm, did I say incognito? Maybe I should have said, "Duck". Thanks for clicking the links. I noticed if you click on the "sex" one it doesn't take you to this link.

I like the crackle too. I have wood I'm going to shape into a crackle guitar. I'm going to play with the crackly first on some scrap to see how it will work.

I forgot to say that Erin and I went to see The Happening last night. Loves me some M Night Shyamalan.

cool looking guitar. Well worth the time you put into it, I would think.

The guitar looks marvelous. I admire people who have the patience to do stuff like that. My answer is usually a 5 horse compressor and a spatula.

BTW: I'm now fond of Cobalt Blue myself!

Mielikki: Ya know, these kits are known to be cheaply made and you always are missing parts. As I was. I happened to have the missing parts for another guitar. I haven't heard it in a big room, but I'm excited to try it out.

Beast: Patience????? I don't have that stuff. What I didn't have was a lot of time. If anything I work to finish what I start. I wanted it finished the day I got the kit.

New names..I love it!

You and I have the same food fetish...Chicken. I could eat it every night for the rest of my life.

Great looking guitar. Now, let's hear the audio of you playing it. :)

Mmmm Creme Brule. That's my favorite too. Have you had creme brule cheesecake? OMG.

Knot said...

Fred: Actually .... uggghhhh I'm more partial to beef. I'm allergic to chicken. Odd that I LOVE fried chicken. If there is one close go to www.chickene.com

Tink: Yes, Creme Brule is the best. But I don't want it in cheese cake. I want it in a big huge bowl in front of me.
