Here's the deal. My workplace doesn't believe in technology. They don't believe in planning. They don't believe in anything that takes effort. I am a technologist. My work requires planning, hard work and effort. I am an anathema to them.
I have two meetings in the next two days. I believe that the head guy doesn't want to deal or have any technology anymore in his group. That is so stupid.
My first meeting is tomorrow to lay out a strategy to correct the stupidity that has existed for 30 years.
My second meeting is to explain to the top guy what I do.
He has no clue what I do. So today I listed 23, yes 23, things I do at my job.

From the 'doesn't believe in technology' dept: sounds like our church was for a while. The 'computer' committee (the ones in charge of guiding the staff on set up and use of an office network) was made up of people who didn't know a USB port from a PS2 plug. Their thinking was 'why spend an extra $10 on a set of speakers for a computer? They're supposed to be working, not listening to stuff' and 'well, the pastor and one or two others we'll let have computers but what would the secretaries do with them?' and 'if we let them get on that Internet thing they'll just spend all day wasting time'...and this was all just 6 years ago. God managed to arrange for me to become chairman of that committee about then and a miraculous thing happened-the boat anchors, for some reason, quit when we changed our purpose to helping the church save money by meeting there on weekends and running cable and setting up systems to save $$ over an outside firm coming in to do it. Amazing how it works when you make the 'large and in charge' get off their duff and earn their keep.
Which is a perfect segue to the 'head guy not having a clue what you do' dept.: this is what is wrong with management and administration in all walks of life today, whether it's in education, the corporate world, or government. Too many of the people in charge are morons that couldn't do a fraction of what the people under them do...and they are the leaders? I think we see the problem. The head guy has to have some 'bandwidth' between the ears. It boggles my mind how many dumb, stupid, clueless idiots are in positions of authority.
Goodluck in your upstream battle!
